HISTORY OF THE FOOD PANTRY

The Food Pantry began in the mid-1980s with one shelf and one volunteer in a small room in the old church located at the corner of Vine and Warren Streets in Roberts. As the community became aware of the existence and need for a food shelf, they responded with donations and food drives. In 2003, a decision was made to formally become The Roberts United Church of Christ Food Pantry, a free-standing non-profit board, which meant being able to meet all necessary requirements to apply for government food and funding programs.

When designing the new church building in 2006, Roberts United Church of Christ created a space dedicated for use by the Food Pantry. Through the financial support of the communities and local organizations, funds were raised, the room was finished and furnished, and the new food shelf was organized.

In 2016, there were 594 client visits and over 58,000 pounds of food were distributed. The need is great and we feel so blessed to provide this outreach program to our community.
