"Seven Signs: A Journey to Easter"
is a Lenten Bible Study & Daily Devotional by Rev. Burt D. Williams
Lent is not about proving something to God. It is about making space to notice what God is already doing.
This year, I invite you into a shared journey called Seven Signs: A Journey to Easter. Together, we will walk through the Gospel of John and spend time with the seven signs — the moments when Jesus reveals not just power, but presence. Not just miracles, but meaning. These signs are not spectacles meant to impress us. They are invitations meant to form us.
From water turned to wine…
to sight restored…
to fear quieted on dark waters…
to life unbound from the tomb…
Each sign asks something of us.
Each sign reveals something about Christ.
Each sign gently reshapes how we see our own lives.
The Weekly Bible Study
The Bible Study gathers us around one sign each week.
We will listen closely to the Scripture.
We will ask honest questions.
We will make room for reflection and conversation.
We will pray together.
You do not need to be a Bible expert. You only need to be willing to notice. The study is designed for group discussion, but it is also accessible for personal use if you prefer to move through it quietly and prayerfully on your own.
The Daily Devotional
The Daily Devotional is meant to carry the sign into your week. Each day offers:
A brief Scripture passage
A short reflection
A simple prayer
A gentle invitation for practice
Nothing overwhelming. Nothing heavy. Just steady companionship as we move toward Easter.
My hope is that these daily moments help you see where Christ is already at work — in your conversations, your decisions, your fears, your longings.
How They Move Together
On Sundays (or in your weekly gathering), we open the sign together in worship and study. Then throughout the week, the devotional keeps that same sign alive in smaller, quieter ways. It becomes a rhythm:
Gather
Listen
Reflect
Practice
Return
Lent becomes less about giving things up and more about making room — room for trust, room for healing, room for courage, room for deeper sight. By the time we arrive at Easter, my prayer is not simply that we understand resurrection — but that we recognize it unfolding within us.
An Invitation
Whether you join the weekly study, follow along with the devotional at home, or engage with both, I hope you will step into this season with openness. You are welcome here. You are not behind. You are not too late. Christ is already walking toward you across the water. Already turning ordinary moments holy. Already calling your name. Let’s walk this road together.
Grace and peace,
Rev. Burt D. Williams

ROBERTS CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
We welcome, without exception, all who desire to come and share in our Christian Education program. In that spirit, we have switched from the traditional model of Sunday School to a Family Oriented model. In this case the family is not just those who have young ones at home. This program was developed for the ENTIRE church family which includes YOU! We are creating a RUCCUS and we hope you'll join us. RUCCUS - Roberts UCC Understanding Scripture is the name of this new program. We are all children of God and never too old to learn and grow in our faith!
RUCCUS is held the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from September through May. The basic schedule is as follows:
5:30pm Gather for a potluck meal. Please bring something to share as well as your own plates/utensils.
6:00pm Gather as a large group for the reading of Scripture, a few songs and to learn about the evening's "Big Idea".
6:30-7pm Break into groups where we look deeper at the Scripture and Big Idea to gain greater understanding and share our thoughts.
7:00pm Gather as a large group for a brief time of sharing before closing the evening.
